New Science Course for Spring 2006

Finally, we have an online course that will satisfy your general education requirement for a physical science. Andrew VanTuyl, meteorologist, will be teaching Introduction to Meteorology (PSCI2) scheduled to start on February 6th, 2006. Weather makes news and is at the heart of major contemporary environmental issues. Studying weather is an excellent tool for studying fundamental scientific concepts. Through this class, students will embark on a semester-long atmospheric field trip, exploring weather maps, satellite/radar imagery, daily weather summaries, and learning investigations keyed to the day's weather.

Dr. Van Tuyl taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completed a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, has published articles in American Meteorological Society journals, and has been a research meteorologist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey for fifteen years.
